Psychotherapist for Residents of D.C. and Maryland

Lorin’s Integrative Person-centered Approach to Therapy

Therapy works best when you feel seen, understood, and safe. Starting therapy is a significant step towards personal growth and well-being. In our work together, I draw from several proven therapeutic approaches:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: This approach explores how past experiences and our internal worlds influence us in the present. We’ll delve into patterns and themes to gain insight, self-awareness, and emotional understanding.
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. We’ll work on practical strategies to manage challenges and develop healthier perspectives.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): IFS views the mind as a community of different parts, each with its own motives and intentions. We’ll explore and learn to communicate with each of these parts to build internal harmony and increase self-compassion.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): EMDR is a technique used to process distressing memories and ease their impact. Through guided eye movements or techniques, we’ll work towards reducing emotional distress and fostering resilience.

Together, we’ll explore which methods resonate best with your unique needs and personality. We’ll collaborate to set personalized, achievable goals. This will help us navigate your path forward, step-by-step, as a supportive team.

Psychotherapy in Practice

I am an enthusiastic and passionate clinician who is energized by working with young adults, adults, couples, and families. My work often focuses on exploring and repairing the relationships that clients have with themselves, their bodies, their sexuality, and other people in their lives.

I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and intentionally practice cultural awareness. I have extensive experience working with clients facing a wide range of challenges, including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Interpersonal relationship difficulties
  • Mood and personality disorders
  • Seual dysfunction
  • Trauma
  • Life Transitions

Couples in Psychotherapy

The courage and honesty it takes to begin the couples therapy process is admirable and noteworthy. It is, also a uniquely challenging experience. As a couples therapist my goal is to advocate for the health and well-being of the relationship even when this challenges the individual.

In your couples therapy work with me, I will utilize the Gottman Method. This practice focuses on strengthening a couple’s relationship through three main prongs: friendship, conflict management, and creation of shared meaning.

LGBTQIA+ Individuals in Psychotherapy

Being a part of the queer community, you are aware of the systemic challenges present in your day-to-day life. It is often a difficult and unfair burden to have to carry this while also dealing with life challenges and/or mental health concerns. I want to help you carry this burden by coming into our work together with an understanding for these challenges and a perspective that allows you to discuss your personal experiences without fear.

Sex and Sexuality in Psychotherapy

Sex and sexuality is a complex topic that is often accompanied by shame, guilt, and fear. We will discuss sex from a systemic, developmental, trauma-informed, and sex-positive perspective. When we are able to approach sexuality in this manner, it allows you to move at your own pace, use your own language, and work towards your own goals.
